Senior Optical / Electro-Optical Systems Engineer

This position requires leadership of system level design and development of Electro-Optical (EO) instruments that may be used to support a variety of measurements in the spaceborne, airborne, ground, and marine environments. Wavelength operation ranges from the ultraviolet through the infrared. The preferred candidate would have significant experience in active and/or passive remote sensing systems, Lidar, interferometry, and/or spectrometry. Successful systems engineering experience must be demonstrated. Hands-on experience with optical design (Zemax or equivalent software), aligning, and testing of optical systems is required. Experience with modeling, analysis, and simulation of EO instrument performance, scattering and atmospheric phenomenon is a plus. Candidates must possess excellent leadership, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and (written and oral) communication skills. A degree or degrees Masters level or higher preferred) in appropriate engineering or science disciplines, e.g., Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Optical Engineering and 5+ years experience are required.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead the development of EO systems that include contributions from several disciplines, such as electrical engineering, mechanical (opto-mechanical) engineering, optics, software, and atmospheric phenomenology.
  • Provide hands-on technical oversight in the development of prototype systems.
  • Develop new EO instrument concepts, cost estimates, specifications, and presentation materials for proposals.
  • Contribute in a significant way to program and technical management, either as a manager or by providing data to other management staff.
  • Assist in the technical transition of technologies to PDR/SDD class hardware and ultimately, product manufacturing environments.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US Citizenship is required. Current security clearance preferred.
